Due to the untimely arrival of Hurricane Irene in 1999, the Second Annual Wildlife and Birding Festival of 2000 was excitedly welcomed as the first festival of its kind in the Keys.

The festival included a series of presentations and field trips centered on the wildlife of the Florida Keys as well as a field day for third grade students of Monroe county.  Programs were presented on topics ranging from Manatees to Warblers.  A variety of fieldtrips encouraged attendees to venture outdoors and look for such beautiful creatures as butterflies, shore birds and of course raptors!

Held in mid October, the festival is timed perfectly to include the amazing migration of raptors.  Billed as the top site to see raptors, nearly 50% of the visitors that attended the festival also attended the activities and seminars at the count site and the visitor’s blind.

The success of this festival in 2000 insures that it will become an annual event in the Keys.  For more information please visit the festival webpage!
