Sponsor a wild raptor that has been banded at a HawkWatch International (HWI) migration site and released to continue on its migration journey. HWI's mission is to conserve our environment through education, long-term monitoring, and scientific research on raptors as indicators of ecosystem health. During raptor migration, volunteers harmlessly trap and band thousands of birds of prey as they travel through flyways in the United States.
Subsequent encounters with banded birds identify causes of raptor injury and death, and allow researchers to track migratory routes and connections between breeding and wintering grounds. This information is essential for monitoring the health of raptor populations and identifying conservation needs, and ultimately helps ensure the vitality of ecosystems for both raptors and humans. Portions of the proceeds from the Adopt-a-Hawk program contribute to our scientific research & conservation efforts.
