Seasonal Environmental Educators - Migration Field Sites
Description:
Field educators (7-8 positions) needed to staff fall raptor migration study sites in Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, Montana, and Texas. Projects will run between 15 August and 15 November 2006; specific dates vary by site. Primary responsibility is as community and visitor liaison. Duties include: promote HWI activities in nearby communities, greet visitors, explain HWI and its mission, promote membership and merchandise availability, coordinate field trips and outreach, help identify migratory birds, discuss research objectives, methods and results, prevent uncessary visitor distraction of counters and banders, and document visitation. All educators work as volunteers receiving a non-taxable daily stipend of $30/day (~$900/month), a $150 project-access travel stipend, and reimbursement for other work-related travel and expenses. Should funding permit, a pre-season networking period with housing and stipend provided will be added to the term of some positions.
Requirements:
Natural history, natural resources and/or raptor identification knowledge are desirable. Background in experiential or environmental education is preferred. Public speaking and networking skills are required. Applicants must be in good physical condition, be able to endure long hours in the field and variable weather, and must be able to work well in a team environment. Most projects (all but TX--housing provided) are in high-elevation remote areas and require camping on site. All crewmembers at such sites must supply their own camping gear and in most cases their own food supplies. A vehicle is required for all projects, and in most cases one capable of backcountry travel is recommended. Applicants must be available for the entire season.
How to Apply:
Send cover letter, detailed resume, 3 current references with phone numbers or e-mail addresses, and dates of availability preferably by email to jhajj@hawkwatch.org or by regular mail to Education Department, HawkWatch International, Inc., 1800 S. West Temple, Suite 226, Salt Lake City, UT 84115. Visit www.hawkwatch.org for project locations and descriptions. Positions are open until filled.

Some positions will require prior experience with trapping raptors at a migration banding station.
