GENERAL SUPPORT

General support donations provide maximum flexibility by allowing us to allocate money where it is most needed.

WISE WIND DEVELOPMENT

Decision makers need to know the raptor-safe areas to place new energy developments. But the data often just do not exist. HawkWatch International is the only organization with the long-term, widespread datasets needed to project whether a particular western mountain ridge would offer a low-impact location for a wind farm before construction begins.

TALONSS

HawkWatch_SLCSE_LoRes-46

Imagine learning statistics by counting hawks. HWI’s TALONSS (Teaching And Learning Observation, Natural Science, & Statistics) program uses experiential, cutting-edge teaching techniques that allow high school students to learn math and science skills through direct experience, such as data gathering, theory formulation, and running tests to uncover answers. As citizens of the world, our children are falling behind in essential math and science subjects at a time when such knowledge is more critical than ever. TALONSS demystifies science and math, engaging students beyond the blackboard, and instilling a lifelong understanding and appreciation of these subjects.

Join HWI and partners, including Utah’s State Office of Education, in bringing math and science alive. Your support will give our students the tools they need to succeed.

MIGRATION-WINTERING-NESTING

LifeCyclephots_copyMigration, nesting, and wintering make up the annual lifecycle of raptors. Understanding these magnificent predators during each phase paints the most accurate picture regarding their conservation status and needs. HawkWatch International goes beyond isolated seasonal strategies, approaching raptor conservation in this holistic way. With 25 years of scientific results behind us, we are poised to address current threats and those we have yet to face.

CITIZEN SCIENCEMantua_flammy_work_019

Citizen Science program offers communities quality, adult-oriented, raptor ecology educational programs leading to real-world application of conservation science. Participation in free trainings leads to direct volunteer participation in HWI’s Fall Raptor Migration Research Projects and/or Wintering Raptor Conservation Project.

HWI helps participants develop the biological and earth science knowledge and skills necessary to succeed as Citizen Science volunteers. This program directly makes the operation of HWI’s migration and wintering research efforts more efficient and more meaningful to nearby communities. Maybe best of all, the work accomplished by HWI Citizen Science volunteers will influence conservation and land-management policy regionally and nationally in the coming decades.
