Anna is a Utah Conservation Corps intern working in the education and
outreach departments of three non-profit organizations in Utah:
HawkWatch International, the Learning Center at Farmington Bay, and
Wasatch Community Gardens. Anna is originally from Minnesota, but has
lived and worked in several mountain states including Idaho, Oregon,
Washington, and New Mexico. After receiving a B.S. in Ecology from
Winona State University, Minnesota, Anna worked as an avian research
technician and educator on various bird research projects including
education and banding positions with HawkWatch in the Sandia Mountains
of New Mexico, a bird research technician for the Sustainable
Ecosystems Institute, Idaho, and as a bird and amphibian researcher for
the Great Lakes Environmental Indicators (GLEI) project in the upper
Midwest. Anna received her master’s degree in biology, with a minor in
statistics from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 2005 after which
she remedied the stress of graduate school by again working as a raptor
bander for HawkWatch International in the Goshute Mountains, Nevada.
Anna is delighted to be living in Utah and has already taken many
opportunities to explore the area. Her plans for the rest of the year
include exploring the Wasatch Mountains near Salt Lake City, travel to
the canyon country of SE Utah as much as possible, and again working
for HWI as a raptor trapper in the Goshute Mountains, NV for the fall
migration. Anna’s hobbies include snowshoeing, hiking, canoe racing,
birding, playing geologist, traveling, accepting donations, and eating
fun foods.
