HawkWatch has a unique way of getting students excited about science. By bringing a live raptor into the classroom, students get to see what there is to be excited about in the field of biology. Our programming is based on the concept that if students care about the subject they will find it more exciting to learn. The program content relies heavily on the methods and results of our migration monitoring research. By bringing the spark of fascination into classrooms we hope to encourage students to be more excited about science.

HawkWatch International can also work with you to tailor a program specific to the needs of your group. Summer camps, scout troops, libraries, nursing homes, youth shelters, and museums are a few examples of groups that have used HawkWatch Education programs. You can too.

Field Trips are offered periodically on an individual enrollment basis. They are designed to offer a deeper understanding of raptor identification, handling, or ecology. Previous offerings have included: visits to HWI research sites and field trips focusing on species of seasonal interest (wintering Bald Eagles) or conservation concern (California Condors). There are educators at six fall research sites and one spring research site. Educators at each of the sites teach visitors about raptor migration, raptor ecology and identifying the raptors that are migrating overhead.
